The American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI) announced that Stephen Chan, Vitalant Professor of Vascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine (Division of Cardiology), University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, was elected as its new vice president. In this capacity, he will serve on the ASCI council for four years and will assume the role of president in the 2027-28 cycle.
Chan attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before entering the Medical Scientist Training Program at University of California San Francisco. He completed his residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and did clinical and research fellowship training in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2009, he joined the faculty at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and was promoted to assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in 2011.
Chan joined Pitt in 2015 and was appointed director of the Vascular Medicine Institute in 2020.
In his new ASCI role, Chan will lead and shape programs to advocate for and empower U.S. physician-scientists.
